Match the format to the machine
Packs offer a fixed dose; powder and gel allow measurement. Compact dishwashers can have different quantities and dispenser arrangements from full-size machines. Check the instructions before putting a full-size pack into a small countertop unit.
With a pack, keep hands and the compartment dry and follow the wrapper directions. Do not cut or puncture it to estimate a partial dose. With a measured product, use the recommended quantity for the stated conditions rather than filling every available space.
Keep the dispenser clear
A pan handle or tall cutting board can prevent the detergent door from opening. Check that the load leaves room for it and that nothing obstructs the spray. If detergent remains afterward, investigate placement and cycle choice before assuming the product is defective.
Store detergent in its original closed container in a dry location out of children’s and pets’ reach. A damp pack or clumped powder can be harder to use as intended.
Avoid substitutions
Hand dishwashing liquid is designed for a different use and can produce excessive suds in a dishwasher. Homemade combinations also lack the appliance-specific dosing and formulation instructions of an automatic product. If you run out, postpone the machine load or use an appropriate handwashing method.
Rinse aid, dishwasher salt and maintenance cleaner serve different roles. Do not combine them in the detergent cup or assume one replaces the others. Use each only where the model’s instructions allow it.
